How to use & support

Find your way around the fretboard, one round at a time.

Start with 10 questions.

  1. Start a round from the home screen. Select one or more strings to practice in Settings.
  2. Choose the highlighted position's note name from two buttons. String 1 is at the top, string 6 at the bottom. Fret 0 means an open string.
  3. Each question has a 30-second limit. Correct answers in under 10 seconds count as mastered, earning points and combos.
  4. After 10 questions, check your mastery rate, reaction time, and best combo, then practice again or review.

Fretomo covers a six-string guitar in standard tuning, from open strings to fret 12. Strings 6 to 1 are E, A, D, G, B, E. Other tunings and bass-specific questions are not currently supported.

Read the five hint stages.

The question's note name stays hidden until you answer. A new clue appears every five seconds.

  1. 25 seconds left: Yellow C notes help you locate your position.
  2. 20 seconds left: A local C major shape appears across four nearby frets. Purple degrees 1, 3, 5, and 7 belong to Cmaj7. Pink degrees 2, 4, and 6 are the other scale notes.
  3. 15 seconds left: Pink lines connect matching note names on other strings. ↗ means an octave higher, ↙ an octave lower, and = the same pitch. Connections beyond the enlarged view can be seen in the full board view.
  4. 10 seconds left: A green ring marks a nearby different natural note on the same string.
  5. 5 seconds left: Count the fret distance from that reference note. Each fret is one semitone.

C major is a learning reference, not a detected song key or a prescribed fingering. The colors do not imply that every scale note, including degree 4 (F), is always stable over Cmaj7. For sharp or flat questions, use the distance from nearby scale notes.

A matching note name can have a different pitch. Fret 0 and fret 12 share a note name, one octave apart.

Review builds on your history.

A wrong answer, a timeout, or a correct answer taking 10 seconds or more marks the position for review. Tricky positions can reappear a little later in a regular round. Review mode focuses on those positions.

A position leaves review when more than 80% of its cumulative answers are correct in under 10 seconds. Exactly 80% is still in review. A position returns if its rate later falls to 80% or below.

For one position, 4 mastered answers out of 5 is 80%, so keep reviewing. One more mastered answer makes 5 out of 6, about 83%, removing it from review. Its past records remain.

Common questions

I picked the right note. Why is it marked for review?
A correct answer taking 10 seconds or more is correct in note name, but does not count as mastered. Review helps you recognize it sooner. Exactly 10 seconds also counts for review.
I cannot hear the sound.
Check your device volume, silent switch, and Bluetooth output. Check music and sound-effect levels in the app's Settings. The home screen's music button toggles music mute.
Can I practice offline?
The note quiz and local learning records work offline. Ad consent and display, Game Center, this site, and linked reference articles need an internet connection.
Can I change the language?
Choose Auto, 日本語, or English under Display language in Settings. Auto follows your device language.
Can I erase my learning records?
Use Erase learning records in Settings and confirm. This erases scores, cumulative position records, review targets, history, and local achievements. Volume, language, and Game Center connection remain. Previously submitted Apple achievements or leaderboard scores, if any, are not erased by this action.
How do I change ad privacy choices?
Open Settings → Ads & privacy. Ad privacy settings appears when required for your region or consent state. If consent cannot be checked, use the retry option. You can keep practicing even when ads cannot be shown.
Can I use Game Center?
You can connect to iOS Game Center. Practice and local records also work without it. Leaderboard sharing is in preparation. When sharing is available, scores and achievements are sent only after separate consent and a press of Send to Game Center. Answer history is not shared. Enabling sharing does not start automatic submissions.
Will records sync to another device?
Fretomo currently has no app account or learning-record sync between devices. Removing and reinstalling the app may lose local records.
